eBike battery check

High-quality lithium-ion batteries are complex, finely tuned systems with a high energy content. They can cause hazardous situations if they are not handled correctly. For safety reasons, eBike batteries must therefore undergo and pass extensive legally-prescribed tests. Only then are they allowed to be introduced onto the market.

Unfortunately, Bosch eBike batteries are occasionally found for sale in a non-original or defective condition - for example on online auction sites. Safety is a priority for Bosch and we therefore actively draw attention to the potential dangers and, furthermore, the transport law violations of such ‘grey market’ items. We take proactive precautions to preclude risks and prevent the purchase of improperly opened batteries for your safety.

Bosch eBike batteries must never be opened by eBikers under any circumstances; this operation is reserved for competent persons after qualification and training only. Opening the battery means interfering with the delivered condition as approved by Bosch and entails safety risks. In the event of an improper repair, there is a risk that the Bosch eBike battery may catch fire owing to a short circuit – for example due to crushed or incorrectly routed cables, detached components or poor quality electrical connections. These dangers also exist at a later point in time if an eBike battery, once opened, is used again.

Before buying a Bosch eBike battery, you can check with us if any information is available for it by entering the battery’s unique serial number below.

FAQs & more

Anyone can hand in their old or defective eBike battery free of charge to any bicycle retailer, who will recycle it in an environmentally-friendly way. No purchase of a new battery is required to do so.

Please note that heavily damaged batteries should not be touched with bare hands, as electrolyte may leak out, causing skin irritation. Please keep these batteries in a safe place outdoors, with the contacts taped off, and take them to your bicycle retailer for proper disposal as soon as possible.
