Medal haul for athletes with Bosch eBike systems

UCI World Championships 2023

At the end of two exciting races, the two Swiss riders Nathalie Schneitter and Joris Ryf triumphed at the fifth eMTB Cross Country World Championships - this year held in Glentress Forest (Scotland). Four of the six athletes on the podium relied on the Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition drive unit from Bosch eBike Systems.

This year's UCI World Championships are being held at various venues across Scotland. For the Cross Country (XC) athletes, it was down to the Tweed Valley, or more specifically Glentress Forest. The race course was newly built for the race and had a mix of natural sections with lots of roots, as well as big built jumps and drops. For the eMTB competitions, steep, technical uphill bits were added to the cross-country track. Here, it was not only the pure power of the drive unit that counted, but the perfect interaction between human and machine.

The eMTB Cross Country World Championships started with the women's race. After a closely contested start to the race, Nathalie Schneitter was able to position herself at the front after half a lap and continued to pull away from the rest of the field as the race progressed. The Swiss racer was in a league of her own and won with a lead of more than one minute over the second-placed Sofia Wiedenroth from Germany. Schneitter thus repeated her success from 2019, when she already became world champion at the first eMTB Cross Country World Championships. Justine Tonso from France finished in third place. This meant that first and third place in the women's race went to riders with Bosch Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition drive units. Nicole Göldi, the two-time world champion from 2021 and 2022, cancelled her participation shortly before the race.

In the men's race, two-time world champion (2021 and 2022) Jérôme Gilloux from France started as the clear favourite. However, he could not follow the pace of Hugo Pigeon and Joris Ryf at the beginning of the race and fell back slightly early on. In the duel at the front, the Swiss Ryf took the lead at the end of the third lap with an attack on the start-finish straight and from there on rode to victory in commanding fashion. Pigeon and Gilloux, both from France, finished second and third respectively. In the men's race, two out of three riders with Bosch systems were on the podium.

Claus Fleischer, CEO at Bosch eBike Systems, says: "We congratulate all the athletes on their outstanding performances and the medals they won. As a passionate eMTB rider, I am personally fascinated by eMTB racing with all its facets. The fact that we enable athletes to compete even more successfully with our technology makes me particularly proud. And he continues: "eMTB racing has established itself on the world stage of cycling and is becoming more and more professional worldwide, and we actively support this development.
