Safety is a decisive factor for eBike riders and their environment. The world's first production-ready eBike ABS now enables controlled and stable braking, even under difficult conditions. Bosch is an expert with over 40 years of experience in ABS systems, is market leader in motorbike safety systems and is now applying its expertise to pedelecs.
The eBike ABS was developed in the basis of the already established ABS motorcycle. Your safety is enhanced through the combination of front wheel ABS and rear wheel lift control. The pressure at the front brake is regulated during difficult braking manoeuvres and stabilises the riding situation – an advantage particularly during trekking and city riding. Enjoy extended sporty rides, the cycle to work or a cruise in the country with added safety.
ABS for Performance Line Cruise and Speed
The first ABS eBikes were already on German roads with selected fleet partners in spring 2018 . Bosch eBike ABS wurde dabei was initially used for the Performance Line Cruise and Speed in combination with Intuvia on trekking and city bikes with 28 inch tyres.
Since autumn 2018 pedelecs from different producers equipped with Bosch eBike ABS have been available for purchase.
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) from Bosch reduces the risk of eBikers flying over the handlebars or skidding. The eBike ABS was developed on the basis of the already established ABS motorcycle and consists of different components:
1. the ABS control unit
2. the ABS control light
3. two ABS wheel speed sensors, one on the front wheel and one on the rear wheel
4a. The CMe ABS brake developed by Magura
4b. with ABS sensor disc and brake disc
The set weighs around 800 grams. The ABS is automatically enabled above a speed of six kilometres per hour.
The eBike ABS is compatible with all Bosch eBike components starting from model year 2019, except for eShift and COBI.Bike products.
Wheel speed sensors monitor the speed of both wheels. If locking of the front wheel is anticipated during severe braking, Bosch eBike ABS activates and improves the riding stability and steerability of the eBike – especially when riding on slippery surfaces. Harmonious and sensitive braking behaviour significantly increases control and safety.
Rear wheel lift control
The intelligent rear wheel lift control of Bosch eBike ABS reduces the possibility of the rear wheel lifting when the front wheel brake is applied forcefully. The likelihood of being ejected over the handlebar is reduced. This enables you to use the front brake more actively and efficiently.
