Houston has a unique way of expressing culture, telling stories, and sharing experiences through murals. It felt proper to have Donkeemom & Donkeeboy do just that with their signature style and support from Bosch eBike systems. After completion of the mural, it was time for the unveiling.
We started the evening by gathering at the GreenStreet open-air mall. A crowd of cyclists from all around Houston and curious passersby formed near the mural. Many reconnected, some networked, and several complemented the mural focusing on its simplicity, vibrant colors, and clear message: “BIKE THROUGH H-TOWN”.
GreenStreet provided their branded goodie bags containing: Bosch hats, bidons, and face coverings, GreenStreet cups, and free ride cards from Houston BCycle. Red Bull provided background music from a rolling, portable boombox and supplied coolers with hydration. Houston BCycle was present with a tent, table, info, and free goodies for guests. They also allowed guests to test ride eBikes. For many, it was there first Bosch powered eBike ride!
After photo ops and conversations, and even bike stunts at the mural, yours truly gathered the crowd for a few words. After Donkeeboy and Donkeemom spoke, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee arrived. She expressed gratitude for past and present efforts by the artist duo to brighten the city and give attention to real issues and share great experiences. She continued with mentions of ongoing support and an extra push for safe cycling bills then concluded with certificates of Congressional recognition for the efforts of those involved with the Bike Through H-Town mural and its call to action.
After concluding at the mural, we biked through Downtown, Midtown, and Montrose to Riel for bites and beverages from Highway Vodka and Red Bull. DJ Demo of The Waxaholics provided the vibe and sounds. Conversations and connections continued. As the evening came to a close guests expressed how thankful they were for the entire effort and experience. Several asked, “When is the next one?”
