Bosch takes on the newest trails

in Derby, Tasmania on new Performance Line CX

To celebrate the launch of Bosch eBike Systems new Performance Line CX drive system, the Bosch team hosted three media partners from Australia and New Zealand for a one-of-a-kind riding experience in Derby Tasmania.

The crew were some of the first to test ride bikes equipped with Bosch’s brand-new Performance CX drive units, batteries and connected devices, designed specifically for mountain biking. They rode the newly opened St Helen’s trail, featuring diverse native foliage through 42km of trails and the picturesque views of the Bay of Fires on the decent to the ocean.

We sat down with Kieran Bennett, former pro-mountain biker and the latest member of the Bosch eBikes team in New Zealand to get the low down on the trip.

What did the trip entail?

We wanted to treat our media partners to the ultimate eBike experience for them to test out our new Performance line CX drive unit and Derby didn’t disappoint us one bit. We managed to log around 100km of riding over the two and a half days on an amazing variety of trails.

What was the highlight of your experience?

Arriving on the spectacular beach at the Bay of Fires after riding a purpose built 42km trail was a pretty special experience!

What was the most unique part of riding in Derby?

The fact that basically the whole town revolves around mountain biking blew my mind. No matter where you look there is something to do with bikes, bike stores, bike themed cafes, a pump track, rental houses with bike workshops in them and of course the epic trail network!

What are your thoughts on the new Performance Line CX drive system? How did it enhance the experience?

The new Performance Line CX drive unit has made a massive improvement in a couple of areas for me, one is the fact there is now no resistance once the bike has gone over its assistance threshold (25km/h). The second is how well the new eMTB’s ride now that the size and weight of the drive unit has been reduced. eMTB’s are feeling more and more like a regular mountain bike every year!

How would you describe the feeling of riding an eBike to someone who has never tried one before?

It’s just like riding a regular bike but with a gentle hand helping to make the hills easier!
