Power that moves you forward.
To anywhere.

An eBike is much more than a bicycle. The power of its electric motor helps you get around better. In the city, across the country or up a mountain. It gives you a power boost when you need it and makes you independent of timetables or parking spaces. eBikes take up little space and produce neither noise nor exhaust fumes. In return, you can focus on enjoying the ride, even at longer distances. And of course, an eBike offers an incomparable riding experience.

No wonder eBikes are booming. Their advantages are fascinating and convincing. And yet there are still many questions: about the technology, how to operate eBikes, and about their use in road traffic. But don't worry - we'll explain everything you need to know here.

eBike types explained - a clear view for getting started

Don't get confused: everyone talks about eBikes, but there are actually three types of electric bicycles. The generic term "eBike" has become established, but conceals the differences between the various types of bikes. These lie in the motor power, the type of support and the legal requirements. To keep it simple, we always use the term "eBike" as a synonym for a pedelec.

The mid-motor. The golden mean.

In 90 % of pedelecs, a mid-motor is responsible for propelling you forward. This is for a good reason: it is located at the bottom bracket in the middle of the bike, which lowers the centre of gravity and leads to a balanced weight distribution. This makes bike handling easier, and the direct power transmission to the chain conveys a natural riding feeling. And because the Bosch eBike motors, also called drive units, measure important riding data over 1000 times per second with their sensors, they always provide you with the optimum power: precisely dosed and tailor-made for you.

The fact that most eBikes use a mid-motor instead of a front or rear wheel motor brings another advantage. It retains the natural, familiar cycling feeling and you don't feel pushed (rear wheel motor) or pulled (front wheel motor). In addition, with the mid-motor, the power can be controlled precisely via pedal pressure. Note that only a mid-motor can provide maximum power even at low speeds - it gives you thrust whenever you need it.

Batteries – the energy source for eBike fun

The eBike motor draws its energy from the eBike battery. It supplies the eBike motor with power and has a key influence on the range. That is why there are eBike batteries for different requirements as well as for different installation and mounting variations. No matter which eBike you choose and no matter what your requirements are - Bosch has the right lithium-ion battery for you.

The PowerTube batteries can be seamlessly integrated into the bike frame, while the PowerPacks can be mounted either on the frame or on the rear rack. To ensure that you always have enough energy for your flow and a long riding experience, batteries are available with different capacities, which are measured in Wh or Watt-hours. There are also different chargers to quickly recharge the batteries after rides.

Display, app, control unit: Smart and connected

The display is the control centre on the handlebar. It allows you to display various information such as range or selected riding mode and gives you the option of changing the riding modes/assistance levels. Displays are available in many variations and with different functions. From the small control unit with minimalist display of riding modes and range, such as Purion or the LED remote, to classic displays with a screen, to fully networked on-board computers including smart features and automatic updates over-the-air - you have many options to choose from. The Bosch displays expand your eBike experience with exciting digital functions and services such as navigation and route planning.

With apps from Bosch eBike Systems, you can connect your eBike to the digital world. For example, you can easily transfer a route from your smartphone to the on-board computer. If you would like more information about the apps and the functions they offer, click here.

Power requires control. The support levels.

eBikes supplement your muscle power with electric power. However, the amount of extra power delivered is up to you: simply by using your own strength and selecting the desired level of assistance. Whether you want to exhaust yourself, arrive at the office without breaking a sweat or go for a long ride - your eBike will do the job. All it takes is the simple touch of a button. The fun of riding, however, always remains at its maximum.

These are the Bosch eBike support levels:

How eBikes enrich your life

Sustainable transformation

The future is electric. eBikes are a sustainable alternative to cars for the vast majority of everyday journeys: with an eCargo bike you can easily go shopping in the neighbouring town, and with an electric-powered city bike you can comfortably cycle across the city - without traffic jams and the search for a parking space.

Riding fun everywhere

Riding an eBike is simply fun. Whether it's an adventure in the mountains or in the urban jungle: with the individual support levels, you always get the boost you need. Whether light, maximally efficient support in "Eco" mode, steady support for long distances in "Tour" mode or full power for top performance in "Turbo" mode.

Fitnessapp

Fitness programme included

eBikes not only take you comfortably from A to B, but also train your fitness. You decide how much thrust the drive delivers and how much power comes from your legs. With our networked on-board computers, you can always keep an eye on your performance and control your individual fitness training. Studies show that people ride an eBike more often and longer than a conventional bike.

Relaxed commuting to work

Almost half of all commuters in Germany cover only ten kilometres or less to get to their workplace. An eBike is the fastest way to get there - and it's completely relaxing without having to break a sweat.

Family fun

eBikes bring friends and families not only to their destination, but also closer together. This is because their power makes age and fitness a secondary matter. Parents, children, and grandparents alike can enjoy carefree excursions. Their range grows and so does the sense of community.
