Bosch eBike Systems was founded in 2009, with the first drive system already launching at Eurobike in 2010. Since then, eBikes have been "epowered by Bosch". Right from the start, Bosch benefited from the experience gained in the automotive and motorcycle sectors and its great repository of technological expertise.
The start-up soon became a global player and is now trusted by more than 70 leading bicycle brands. The high-quality, reliable systems from Bosch eBike have been creating a world of riding enjoyment for many years. Drive units, on-board computers, batteries, chargers and accessories: the constant supply of innovative products make modern eBiking easier, more dynamic and safer than ever before. Bosch is setting new standards with pioneering innovations, such as Nyon, the world's first all-in-one on-board computer, the Performance Line CX for eMTBs, or the first production-ready ABS for pedelecs. Now, in 2019, Bosch eBike Systems is celebrating its 10th anniversary - still maintaining the agility and spirit of a start-up, combined with the power of a global corporation. We continue to set the standard for the future of bicycle mobility. This is the basis for our continued success and ability to attract many, many new eBike fans.
2011 marked the start of a new era: Bosch eBike systems brought new mobility and greater vitality to the eBike market with a drive system that could be used just as easily for relaxed cruising or sporty outings. The first system was already capable of adapting flexibly to every riding style and situation - a quality that has distinguished all drive units of the brand ever since. From trekking to city use: 50 Nm of torque, support up to 25 km/h, the right choice of riding modes and the sensitive 3-sensor technology inspired users and attracted new target groups to eBiking, marking the start of a success story.
Bosch eBike Systems presented a new on-board computer in 2012: Intuvia – the clue is in the name! Intuvia made riding the eBike even easier and more comfortable. The intuitive on-board computer marked the start of a concept that has since come to distinguish Bosch eBike systems. The separate control unit allowed the required riding mode to be selected. The display showed all the key information, a USB port for the smartphone turned Intuvia into a control centre for people on the move. In addition to its user friendliness, Intuvia still stands for harmonious partnership between eBike and rider.
2013: Bosch eBike Systems is expanding its range of drive units and addressing the needs of eBikers even more precisely with the new Active Line and Performance Line drive systems. Whether you choose a relaxed pace on your way to work or a sporty style when riding off-road: The improved design means the new drive units can be better integrated as part of the bike. With five riding modes each, 3-sensor technology and impressive torques, they offer the perfect ""built-in tailwind"" on every tour. Since then, the drive units have always offered perfectly proportioned pedal support, the current high point being the Performance Line CX, developed especially for eMountain bikers.
2014: The first Nyon all-in-one on-board computer from Bosch eBike Systems opened up a new dimension in eBiking. Simply smarter eBiking: thanks to GPS, navigation, fitness and smartphone functions this is no longer just a pipedream. When used together with the Bosch ebike-connect.com online portal and the smartphone app of the same name, Nyon becomes a travel guide, tour planner and fitness trainer all in one. By offering next-generation eBike connectivity, Nyon opens the door to a uniquely connected eBike world - a milestone for those who want all the details of the route, range and riding data while on the move.
2017: Riding enjoyment with less risk - the world's first standard ABS for eBikes. As a leading provider of motorbike safety technology, Bosch presents the first production-ready Anti-Lock Braking System for eBikes. The eBike ABS enables controlled and stable braking in every situation. The brake pressure on the front brake is regulated during difficult braking manoeuvres and stabilises the riding situation. This prevents the rider from being thrown over the handlebar due to a locking front wheel, making it ideal for trekking and for city use. The combination of front wheel-ABS and rear wheel lift control helps prevent accidents with the pedelec and permanently increases safety among eBikers – an important milestone for the success of the eBike.
Bosch eBike Systems works on the future of a mobility, which is healthy, and economically and ecologically sustainable. To achieve this vision, Bosch eBike Systems cooperates closely with experienced partners and utilizes synergies from the Bosch group. Electrified, automated, and connected: The Pedelec is one of the most agile, comfortable and simply smartest vehicles of our time. With innovative products and conclusive service for the eBike, we make the eBike world even more fascinating.
